Video Compression Checklist
The most common mistake in compression is expecting one preset to fit all files. This checklist helps you build a repeatable process with minimal quality loss.
1. Classify the source
- Test screen recordings, camera footage, and animation clips in separate groups.
- Define your destination: social media, website, or internal sharing.
2. Optimize in sequence
Start with bitrate. If target size is still not met, reduce resolution next. Consider frame-rate reduction as the last step to avoid unnecessary quality loss.
For implementation, use Video Compressor and start with a medium preset before comparing output quality.
3. Final checks before publishing
- Any blocking artifacts or color banding in critical scenes?
- Is audio sync preserved on longer videos?
- If GIF output is needed, did you test direct video-to-GIF export?
For short animated output, also test Video to GIF.
